So you’ve adopted or purchased an dog from a breeder. You love him, he keeps you company,runs with you in the evenings, but you have a problem. He loves you to much. He barks when you put him in his crate or bed and when you not home he barks all day long. Is there away to fix this problem or will you be plagued by angry neighbors? Dogs usually bark for one of two reasons: they are cared or more likely they want attention. Habitual barking will always show up as a need to get attention.as there should be no reason that you dog is perpetually scared. We shower them with affection and attention, right to the time we have to go to bed or leave for work and then they are left with nothing to do. They get bored and want us to entertain them, so they bar. And then, as soon as they start barking, what is our automatic response? “Quite!” or “Shut up,I’m trying to sleep!’ We yell at them, but all this really does is says “if you bark, I will eventually have to give you verbal attention” This trains them that barking will get them what they want, which just feeds the bad habit and now you have to find method of teaching your dog not to bark.
Tips on Teaching your Dog Not to Bark:
The first tip on teaching your dog not to bark is the you need to remember that your dog doesn’t need your attention 24 hours a day. Teach your dog that he isn’t totally reliant on you for his entertainment. Sit on a different side of the room from him or go about your daily tasks with him in another area. You can devote a specific chunk of time in your day to snuggling on the couch or petting you pup, but do not let physical affection control your relationship when you are not home. Just because you and your animal are in the same house or room does not mean you should be affectionate all the time. Save praise for when you dog does something right or when you training, not because he is just there in the room. You control when the praise is needed.
Another tip is to teach him how to entertain himself. Purchase some chew toys or a Kong toy so that he has something to do that is not related with you and he will so learn not to rely on you for all his entertainment. Chews and toys should keep him busy while you aren’t home and will help in teaching your dog not to bark all day long.
When to Get Help in Teaching Your Dog Not to Bark:
If things become really bad and desperate measure are called for in teaching your dog not to bark, then they should be taken quickly. One method is a bark collar. These can be purchased at any local pet store. They work by electrically stimulating a dog when they bark. You can even purchase ones that increase in intensity if you dog continues his none stop barking. Contrary to popular belief, electronic collars do not harm or traumatize your dog. Mostly, they just frighten your dog and get your dog to associate that shock with his barking, encouraging him to no longer bark. Another method is to get a professional trainer
that has study animal behavior and can take the time to train you dog that barking isn’t accepted behavior. You need to start teaching your dog not to bark all day and night so that you will get some sleep and not make enemies out of your neighbors.
